How to upload website files using Dreamweaver FTP
There are two things you will need to do in order to upload your files via Dreamweaver.
- Set Up the Remote Connection Info
This assumes that you have already gone through the “New Site” wizard and just need to add the file transfer connection
information for your Websites-Unlimited account.
- Click “Site” on the menu bar and select “Manage Sites” from the list. A pop-up window will appear.
- Select your site from the list and click the “Edit” button.
- Click on the “Advanced” tab.
- In the “Category” column on the left, click “Remote Info”
- Add your connection settings:
- Access: Select “FTP” from the list. The rest of the form will update to include the fields listed below.
- FTP host: Enter your domain name without the “www.”
- Host directory: /public_html/
- Login: Your current cPanel user name (this is also your FTP user name)
- Password: Your current cPanel password (this is also your FTP password)
- You should not need to change any of the other settings.
- Click the “Test” button beside the “Login” field. This will test your FTP settings by establishing a brief connection with the server.
- Click the “OK” button. The Site Definition window will close.
- Click the “Done” button to close the Manage Sites pop-up window.
- Connect and Upload
Once you have finished designing your site, you can upload it directly from Dreamweaver.
- Expand the “Files” sidebar on the right.
- Click the “Connect to remote host” icon (the one that looks like two electrical cord plugs). When you connect, the icon will change to show the two plugs joined.
- Change the “Local View” option to “Remove View” in the drop-down list. The file display immediately beneath the file controls should change to show the contents of the /public_html folder on your HostPapa account.
- Click the “Put File(s)” icon (the blue upward-pointing icon). Dreaweaver will upload all your files to the server.
- If you receive a message asking if you want to upload dependent files, click “Yes.”
- When the files have finished uploading, click the “Disconnects to remote host” icon (the one that looks like two electrical cord plugs joined). When you disconnect, the icon will change to show the two plugs separated.
You should now be able to view your site online! If you cannot, you may need to click the refresh button on your Internet browser – it sometimes does not check to see if anything has changed on a website and may still be showing you old information.
